Our Story: A Love Worth 500 Plus

The Connection
The Connection
Like any great romantic comedy, our story begins at... a funeral.
We know — not exactly “meet-cute” material, but fate has a twisted sense of humor. We were just teenagers, vaguely aware of each other’s existence while grieving in black attire. Nothing more than a quiet nod from across the room
.Fast forward to a wedding (yes, we really did jump from funeral to wedding — balance, right?). We were still teens, but this time, we actually talked. We laughed. We danced. It was the kind of night you don’t forget... even if you don’t realize its importance until years later.
The Seperation
And then? Life happened.
Janelle was a New York City girl with subway sass and a heart full of hustle. Tyrell was holding it down in Mississauga, Ontario — maple syrup in his veins and a deep love for efficiency. We had a short high school romance, one of those sweet, “what if” connections.
But with university pulling us in different directions, we called it off. That should’ve been the end.
Spoiler: It wasn’t.

The Reconnection
Years later, our love story got its plot twist — courtesy of food, Instagram, and international banter.
Janelle slid into Tyrell’s DMs (about food prep, okay?), asking if his new business was expanding to NYC. Tyrell, never missing a beat, replied, “Gotta take over my own city first.” That sparked more DMs, including the fateful exchange where Tyrell revealed he was planning a solo trip. Janelle replied with a simple 🙋🏽♀ — and just like that, the most spontaneous “baecation” of all time was booked.
Where did we reconnect? ICELAND.
Because if you're going to rekindle a love story, it might as well be under the Northern Lights, bathing in geothermal lagoons like it’s a Netflix series finale. That trip changed everything.
By December 2019, we were officially together — despite a slight 500-mile issue known as “being in two different countries.” Enter: long-distance. Romantic train stations, airport hugs, endless FaceTimes… and a tiny thing called a global pandemic (truly the villain arc of our movie). But we made it work.

The Move
In 2022, Janelle moved to Toronto, officially turning our international love story into a domestic one. No more border-crossing love notes — just regular old laundry arguments and “what do you want to eat?” debates.

The Proposal
And then came the proposal.
Tyrell told Janelle they were doing a photoshoot. What she didn’t know was that he had orchestrated a surprise with military-level precision. Her mom. Her sister. Her ride-or-die homegirls. All in town. All hiding.
When Tyrell popped the question, Janelle was stunned. But when her girls jumped out? She absolutely lost it.
It was loud. It was emotional. It was perfect. Just the way we like it.
From funeral to wedding — full circle, right?

Fun Facts & Inside Jokes
We say “500 Plus” as a form of “I love you.” Why? Because the distance between NYC and Toronto is 500 miles, and we always joked we had to make it to 500 months together (and counting).
We even have a secret handshake to seal our “500 Plus” pact.

Our relationship is built on travel, food, chaos, and extremely efficient Google Calendar planning.
THE MOST FUN FACT!
We’re beyond excited to start this next chapter.
One full of laughter, spontaneous flights, secret handshakes, and all the love we’ve got to give.
